Seven Ways to Glorify God at Work

Therefore, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Cor. 10:31)

There are many ways to glorify God on a daily basis.

We can glorify Him everywhere we go and in everything we do. One means by which we can glorify Him is work. Work is a necessary thing that comes in many forms. It is honorable and can be fulfilling. It can be stressful and frustrating too, but it can still all be used to bring praise to God and build His Kingdom.

Here are 7 ways in which we can glorify God through our work:

  • Commit all work unto Him

“Commit whatever you do to Adonai, and your plans will succeed,” (Prov. 16:3). When we commit all of our works unto God, He will bless our pursuits. In everything we do, it should all be for Him. “Whatever you do, work at it from the soul, as for the Lord and not for people,” (Col. 3:23). With the knowledge that our work is for Him, we can trust that it is important and will prosper.

  • View work as a ministry

No matter what the job is, we can always view it as a ministry. Imagine if in each job you do, no matter how small or large, you bless someone in some way. That essentially would be a form of ministry that would bring glory to God, and that in turn, would make our work much more meaningful. In reality, this is what happens practically all of the time. The work that we do, in one way or another, helps someone else out. Keeping that in mind, we can view any task as a meaningful ministry.

  • Depend on God

We depend on God on a daily basis, even if we don’t immediately recognize it. He allows us to wake up each morning, and he provides and takes care of us. Not to mention that without Him, we wouldn’t even exist. Depending on God at work means that we are relying on Him to help us go through and make the most of each day. He will inspire and bless us in what we do. Our work would actually be in vain without Him. “Unless Adonai builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless Adonai watches over the city, the watchman stands guard in vain,” (Psalm 127:1).

  • Maintain Integrity

Maintaining integrity in the workplace is important. We are models of how believers should behave. People will watch, so we have to make sure that we are setting a good example. We do this by being honest in all our dealings, being punctual, fulfilling our tasks to the best of our ability, and adhering to righteousness. These things set an example of a good employee, and also bring honor not only to oneself, but to God as well. A good example is a good witness. By exemplifying integrity, we are demonstrating our faith and who He is.

  • Grow in skills and gifts

As we continue to work, our skills naturally develop. As they say, “practice makes perfect.” The more we do something the better we get at it. The skills that we have are our gifts. They are given by God and grow over time. The more we grow in our gifts, the more we can build the Kingdom, and thus bring glory to God. “In the same way, let your light shine before men so they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven,” (Mat. 5:16).

  • Have a positive impact

Having an impact is a huge priority for nearly any business. As believers, we should strive to have a positive impact in the workplace and in the community. Maintaining integrity leaves a positive impact. It encourages other employees and builds up the company which then can affect the community. In the workplace, we can have such an influence that it shapes the whole company positively. In the community, our work goes beyond the workplace and affects many in beneficial and potentially life-changing ways. Even the smallest action can create a great difference.

  • Be thankful and humble

Being thankful and humble in all that we do glorifies God as well. We should always be grateful for all that He has done for us. It shouldn’t be for us that we work, but rather for Him who makes it possible for us to do what we do. Thankfulness is humble and can drown out complaint. Being a thankful worker can make difficult tasks easier to bear, and above all else, praises God for everything He does.

In short, there are many ways to glorify God at work. Our God is a great one and deserves great honor and praise. By giving all that we do to Him, including our job, we are giving Him the glory and showing others how great He is.
